Distribution & localityEastern half of the USA and Canada. Occasionally introduced to waterbodies in the western USA as well.
Habitat & Biology
Natural history- Habitat: Freshwater, on host or hard surfaces
- Host/feeding: Parasite of a variety of turtle species
- Reproduction: With parental care, as in all Glossiphoniids
External Morphology
Diagnostics & field IDHighly variable in pigmentation but often with 8-12 brown or green wavy stripes, dorsum relatively smooth or with numerous small sensilla. No supplementary eyes as in Placobdella hollensis, which can otherwise resemble this species.
